Often we hear the phrase "a silver lining" when times are tough. That was particularly true for us here at the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows last Christmas.

Our Christmas celebration could have been considered a disappointment. At our Way of Lights Christmas display, most of our indoor activities had to be cancelled. Attendance at our Christmas Masses was limited to just a handful of people.

But despite all of the complications caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, there was a silver lining.

The number of people driving through our light display was actually up from last year. We were also able to improve our livestreaming capabilities at the Shrine Church to allow people to attend Mass virtually.

The response to the virtual Masses was far beyond our expectations. Thousands of virtual pilgrims began tuning into the Shrine from home. And they didn't stop coming as the pandemic eased. They kept coming and today the Shrine is now a place of healing on a truly global scale!

This Christmas season, I invite you to - Come to the Shrine. If you can come in person, we welcome you! If you can't, please take some time to visit us virtually at Mass is livestreamed every day at our website along with other special celebrations held during the Christmas season and throughout the year.

Christ reminds us that: "For where two or three gather in My name, there am I with them." (Matthew 18:20). So this year, let's gather at the Shrine virtually to celebrate the birth of
Our Savior.

And as we gather together, let us also work to make Christmas a little brighter for our loved ones and for those being served by the Missionary Oblates around the world.

May God bless you and keep you well this Christmas season. Thank you for your support.
