Tekakwitha Easter Blessings

Tekakwitha Easter Blessings

Easter is a time when we celebrate "New Life." And a great example of this new life was when Fr. Benny Lipalata, O.M.I. recently joined us here at the Tekakwitha Indian Missions.

To say that Fr. Benny's journey to the White Earth Reservation in northern Minnesota was unusual would be an understatement.

Father Benny was born in Zambia. He was ordained in 2018 and for two years ministered in his native country. In 2020 he was assigned to the United States where he ministered in Texas and in New Orleans. There he reached out to serve the spiritual and physical needs of the poor and homeless.

A few months ago Fr. Benny joined us here as the third member of our Native American ministry team. He quickly breathed new life into our ministries with his joyful spirit and concern for those who struggle daily on the reservation.

Father Benny told me that he was drawn to the Missionary Oblates because we are not focused on just one area of ministry. Instead, the Oblates are committed to serving the poor and needy with their many faces. And in just three years, Fr. Benny has seen those many needy faces in places like family huts in Zambia, a homeless shelter and soup kitchen in New Orleans and in our parish churches on the Minnesota prairies.

Father Benny, Fr. John Cox, OMI, and I are truly blessed to journey with our brothers and sisters here on the reservation. And we see the impact that we are making on their faces every day. We see smiles when we bring a food basket to a family struggling to find work, tears when we comfort someone who has lost a loved one and gratitude on the face of a homebound elder when we bring them the sacraments.

Like Fr. Benny, can you breathe new life into the Tekakwitha Indian Missions this Lenten season? Your gift of 25 cents, 50 cents or $1 for each of the 40 days of Lent will help brig joy and happiness to our Native American friends.

In return for your generosity, the Oblates and our parishioners at our six parishes also want to do something for you.
