Missionary Oblates Sympathy cards contain a beautiful gift - the gift of prayer. Please share them with someone who is grieving the loss of a loved one.

I recently sent one of these cards to the family of Fr. Kennedy Katongo, O.M.I. Father Kennedy had just become the Director of the Oblates' worldwide Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation office when he died of a heart attack. He was just 36 years old.

Father Kennedy was originally from Zambia, but he was truly a member of the Oblates' global community. I met him when he was a seminarian student here in the United States. He quickly impressed me with his joy and compassion. He told me that poverty should never be considered normal, it needs to be eradicated.

"As an Oblate I have made a commitment to give the poor the best that I have to offer," said Fr. Kennedy. "We only succeed when we can say that we made somebody's life better."

During his all too brief time on earth, Fr. Kennedy made many people's lives better. As a young man, he was part of the Oblates' Youth Alive Zambia program in which he helped to reduce child abuse, unemployment and poverty in his village. As a seminarian, he was an advocate for victims of human trafficking. At the time of his death, Fr. Kennedy was helping the Oblates expand their ecological initiatives to become better stewards of the earth.

Father Kennedy was truly an inspirational man. Who in your life is grieving the loss of an inspirational loved one?
